at least two projectiles were fired from north Korea's eastern coast early on Thursday traveling about two hundred sixty miles to the east that's according to south Korea's joint chiefs of staff Japanese government sources say the projectiles were short range ballistic missiles , the White House Pentagon and US state department did not immediately respond to requests for comment if the new launches are confirmed it would be the first missile test reported since president Donald Trump and north Korean leader Kim Jong un met at the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas at the end of June the US and North Korea recently agreed to hold fresh talks but since then the isolated country has sharply criticized upcoming joint military drills by US and south Korean troops on Tuesday north Korea's state news agency reported that Kim visited a factory and inspected a large newly built submarine accompanied by missile program leaders potentially signaling continue development of a submarine launched ballistic missile program
