>> The battle over Germany's booming food delivery market may have been settled with a takeover. had been in a fierce contest with Delivery Hero, the world's biggest online food delivery firm. Now it's going to take over its large rival's German operations, in a deal valued at just over $1 billion.
It's a bright spot for traders on a generally down day for shares. Dutch listed Takeaway jumping by almost a fifth after the news. The deal ends on its expensive battle over market share. Both firms had been spending heavily to win customers. Now the takeover will give Takeaway double the scale, about 47 million orders a year..
It views the delivery business as merely a marketing tool though. The company says the real money is in the deals it strikes with the restaurants whose food people order.
