>> It's raining on this old house, but not really. This is a replica of a Victorian-era house, which is itself housed inside a climate controlled laboratory in England. All so that researchers at the University of Salford can figure out how to make millions of old homes like this.

But there are simple things they say that can also help. A smart energy meter for one, which is sometime installed for free by utility companies And they found that just closing these curtains saves 40% of the heat that would normally pass through the windows.
