>> Let's see what happens.>> President Trump on Tuesday said it was too early to tell if a government shutdown will hit Washington on Friday. This after his plan to end a bitter showdown with Democrats over funding for his border wall hit a wall of its own. After demanding $5 billion for the wall, the White House early Tuesday stepped back, saying they had found other ways to pay for it.

The president's asked every one of his cabinet secretaries to look for funding that can be used to protect our borders.>> But democrats quickly rejected the idea. Nancy Pelosi saying the White House had proposed what she called a billion dollar slush fund for the wall.

>> Trump saying the wall is needed to keep out illegal immigrants and drugs. Democrats and some Republicans have refused to budge, saying border security can be achieved without a wall. The two sides have just days to come up with a deal to avoid a partial government shutdown that could shutter major agencies like NASA and the national parks, leaving about a quarter of the federal workforce without paychecks during the holidays.
