US president Donald Trump is renewing his threat to close down the southern border with Mexico we're going to have a strong border , gonna have a close border trump first announced last week he would close the border if Mexico didn't take action to stop the flow of migrants fleeing violence in Central America on Tuesday the president said he was pleased with Mexico's efforts to quell the number of asylum seekers reaching the U. S. border but added a new call via to keeping the border open Congress has to meet quickly , and make a deal I could do it in forty five minutes we need to get rid of chain migration we need to get rid of catch and release and visa lottery and we have to do something about asylum and to be honest with you have to get rid of judges if we don't make , they deal with Congress the border is going to be closed hundred percent we have more than six hundred billion dollars in trade between Mexico and the US last year the threat has stoked fears of economic damage and prompted push back from the president's own party closing down the border would have potentially catastrophic economic impact on our country , and %HESITATION %HESITATION would hope we would not be doing that sort of thing sure it's going to be have a negative impact on the economy it's but let me just give you a little secret security is more important to me than trade trump said he could close the border as early as this week
