>> Walmart is teaming up with MGM. The studio Metro Goldwyn Mayer will create content for the retailers video on demand service, Vudu. Walmart will license family friendly content that MGM will produce. The shows will be exclusively licensed for a period of time to Vudu in North America and available on its free ad supported service, Movies On Us.
Licensing content is a cost effective strategy when companies like Netflix and Amazon are spending billions of dollars a year on original and acquired content. Walmart sources say the company does not plan to produce or buy exclusive content as of now.
