>> Just lifting the->> The interim chief of USA Gymnastics resigned on Tuesday, and after only four days on the job. Former Republican Congresswoman, and the late Sonny Bono's widow, Mary Bono. Got some heat when a month old tweet of hers blacking out the Nike logo on her shoe to protest Colin Kaepernick's ad drew fire from the sport's biggest stars.
Like Olympic gold medalist and Nike sponsored, Simone Biles, who tweeted Saturday, quote, don't worry, it's not like we needed a smarter USA gymnastics president or any sponsors, or anything. And three-time Olympic gold medalist, Aly Raisman, on Monday, tweeted that survivors of sexual abuse, quote, deserve better. Raisman said lawyers at Faegre Baker Daniels, where Bono worked, knew of Larry Nassar's abuse in 2015, but the doctor continued to abuse children for another 13 months.
Quote, why hire someone associated with the firm that helped cover up our abuse? Bono since deleted her Nike tweet, but the damage was done. In a letter posted on Twitter, she said that she stepped down after, quote, personal attacks and defended her First Amendment right to tweet the photo.
USA Gymnastics said it would continue to look for a permanent leader as it tried to, quote, transform the organization at all levels to ensure athletes safety.
