the former Florida sheriff's deputy who failed to acts during last year's mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school was taken into custody on Tuesday fifty six year old Scott Peterson was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his lack of response to the massacre the Broward county state attorney said Peterson faces seven counts of child neglect three counts of culpable negligence and one count of perjury what I saw was , a deputy , arrive at the west side of building twelve , take up a position , any never went in a twenty seven minute surveillance video released a month after the shooting showed Peterson who was assigned to the high school staying outside the building the gunmen carried out one of the country's worst school shootings in U. S. history killing seventeen Nicholas crews who was nineteen at the time and previously had been expelled from the school was charged with the murders he is currently awaiting trial Peterson's arrest follows a fourteen month investigation into law enforcement's response during the shooting if convicted on all charges he could face ninety six years in state prison
