Also on Sunday, the Socialist leader rejected a European ultimatum to soon call elections. Maduro has ruled over Venezuela since 2013, presiding over the nation's descent into turmoil with food shortages, deadly street protest,
e exodus of millions, and inflation forecast to hit 10 million percent this year.
But Maduro claims his government is a victim of an economic war led by his political adversaries with the help of Washington. Which, along with many other foreign governments, described Maduro's victory in elections last year as a sham. But Maduro says the United States is now promoting a coup against him.
With the support of Russia and China, Maduro's government has yet to be disavowed by the United Nations. A chorus of countries have recently recognized Guaido as Venezuela's rightful leader, as Guaido fights for military supports.>>
