>> A damaged police car could be seen in front of the US embassy in Beijing, where authorities say a bomb went off on Thursday. According to an embassy official, it happened in a public space off the embassy compound. And other than the bomber, there were no injuries. At the same time, state media reported that a woman had been taken away by Chinese police after spraying herself with gasoline, in what was suspected to be a self-immolation attempt outside the embassy.

State media initially denied reports of an explosion, saying it couldn't be verified and any video of the incident was swiftly deleted off social media. But police later confirmed a suspected firework device had detonated and identified the suspect as a 26-year-old man from Mongolia.
