ne people have died after eating contaminated food at a funeral in the Peruvian Indies. That's according to Peruvian authorities, who say the food appeared to contained organophosphates, a group of chemicals used in pesticides.>>
> In total 50 people were taken ill at the funeral in the village of San Jose de Ushuaia on Monday, and several remained in a critical condition.
Peru's civil defense agencies said patients were being evacuated from a rural hospital in Ayacucho, a southern Andean region that is home to indigenous Ketchwa speaking farmers. According to the health minister that region has seen two incidents of organophosphate poisoning in recent months. Food and beverage samples have been taken from the funeral for further testing.
