>> President Donald Trump is sharply ramping up US pressure on Iran. Trump firing off a warning shot at Tehran in a late night Twitter message in all capital letters. Never, ever threaten the United States again, his tweet said, or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.
00:00:18
The blast from Trump coming as Reuters reports that his administration is rolling out a coordinated media campaign to erode support for Iran's leaders. Warren Strobel, who broke the story, says the White House is pushing the effort on Farsi language TV, radio, and online.>> This is a well thought out and sort of concerted communications offensive.
00:00:37
And it's designed to work in counterpart or in concert with the sanctions that this administration is about to reimpose on Iran. And the idea is to force Iran to make a choice between acceding to US demands on its nuclear program and on its support for terrorist groups or face the possibility that its economy will collapse with a political destabilization that goes along with that.

>> The drive taking shape after Trump withdrew from a seven nation deal aimed at curbing Iran's bid to be a nuclear power. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo in a speech on Sunday compared Iran's leaders to quote, mafia.>> Judging by their vast wealth they seem more concerned with riches than religion.

These hypocritical holy men, they advise all kinds of crooked schemes to become some of the wealthiest men on earth while their people suffer.>> Pompeo's word drawing sharp response from President Hassan Rouhani warning that quote, war with Iran is the mother of all wars. Those words apparently triggering Trump's late night tweet which some are comparing to the fire and fury threat he leveled against North Korea last year over its own nuclear ambitions.

>> Fire and fury. Like the world has never seen.>> Reuters talked to current and former administration officials, some of whom deal with Iran policy, and there's several concerns. One is that this sort of aggressive, it's only rhetoric, but it's still a sort of an aggressive policy. It could lead to a miscalculation or confrontation with Iran.
00:01:59
>> Unlike the outreach to North Korea, there are no diplomatic channels to diffuse the situation with Iran.
