>> Same as security as you go.>> President Trump on the defensive, Wednesday, slamming his onetime personal attorney Michael Cohen who released a secret audio recording that appears to show that, then candidate Trump knew about paying hush money to a former Playboy model. Trump tweeting, what kind of a lawyer would tape a client?
So sad! The recording which was broadcast by CNN late Tuesday night is of a conversation between Trump and Cohen two months before the 2016 election. And offers some details about payments to Karen McDougal, who said she had an affair with Trump. The former Playboy playmate was paid $150,000 by the National Enquirer for her story.
Then the tabloid didn't publish it providing cover for Trump. The released recording follows repeated denials from White House spokespeople and the President's lawyers who have said that Trump did not have an affair with McDougal. Rudy Giuliani said earlier this week that the conversation was held at Trump Tower.
He said that the recorded conversation would show that Trump made clear that if there were going to be a payment, it should be done by check, which would be easily traced. Giuliani also claimed the payment was never made and that no campaign funding was involved. Legal experts say if campaign funds were used, then that could have broken federal election laws.
The recording was 1 of 12 seized from Cohen and turned over to federal prosecutors last week. Cohen's lawyer told the New York Times that his client released the recording because he is quote, on a new path. Adding that he's decided to tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may.
