>> Holy shit.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has identified 29 year-old Faisal Hussein as a suspected gunman who brought panic and tragedy to the streets of Toronto. Captured on cell phone video, a 10 year-old girl and an 18 year-old woman were killed by the shooter, who also injured 13 others on Sunday night in the popular Greektown neighborhood.
That's according to authorities who say Hussein was later found dead. Police are still searching for a motive, but in a statement Monday, Hussein's family said he, quote, had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life. They added, quote, our hearts are in pieces for the victims and for our city.
Toronto Mayor John Tory offered his condolences too, and said gun control needs to be addressed.>> There are far too many people carrying around guns in our city and our region, who should not have them.>> Although Canada has much stricter gun laws than the US, Canadian government data shows crimes involving guns rose 30% from 2013 to 2016.
Gun homicides jumped 66% in the same period.
