Warner Brothers and Mattel announced Tuesday they are partnering to make the first ever live action Barbie film.
The Barbie Doll, launched 60 years ago, has changed with time. Critics say her original unrealistic dimensions promoted unhealthy body ideals among many young girls. Sales of the doll began dropping in 2014. Leading Mattel to add a wider variety of skin tones, body shapes, hijab wearing dolls, and science kits to make their products more inclusive and educational.
But Barbie has yet to be successful as a film franchise. Robbie says she hopes the upcoming film will quote, have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. The plot, title, and release date for the film are yet to be announced.
