>> Portuguese soccer star Christiano Ronaldo is on the hook for a DNA sample. Police on Thursday said they've made the formal request to authorities to Italian authorities, as they investigate claims Ronaldo raped a woman in Las Vegas 10 years ago. Widely seen as one of the greatest soccer players of all time, Ronaldo has said all along, that he is innocent, and called the sexual encounter consensual.
The rape claims came to light last September when Kathryn Mayorga sued Ronaldo, accusing him of assaulting her in a hotel penthouse suit in 2009. And then paying her $375,000 in hush money. She is now seeking $200,000 in damages and to void the nondisclosure agreement, which she says she was coerced into signing.
The Wall Street Journal reported that authorities have sent a warrant for a DNA sample to the court system in Italy, where Renaldo plays as a forward for the professional soccer club, Juventus. The journal said, police want to see if his DNA matches a sample found on a dress of his accuser.
