in Washington with a countdown clock ticking for top Democrats and Republicans and high stakes border talks will huddle Monday afternoon on Capitol Hill looking for a way out after the talks collapsed over the weekend raising fears of another government shutdown when funding runs out at midnight on Friday the talks were set to resume as president Donald Trump heads to a rally in el Paso Texas Monday where he'll renew his pitch for a wall along the border with Mexico as potential twenty twenty presidential contender Beto o'rourke headlines a competing rally in the border city the bipartisan talks fell apart in a dispute over immigrant detention policy Democrats want fewer illegal migrants detained along the border and want to limit the number of detention beds arguing it is cheaper to release low risk migrants while they await deportation and make them wear ankle bracelets instead Republicans want to increase the number of beds to detain more people which they say would make deportations faster trump took a shot at Democrats in a tweet saying quote the Democrats do not want us to detain or send back criminal aliens this is a brand new demand crazy negotiators have also not been able to agree on how much federal money should be spent on physical barriers along the border with Democrats offering two billion dollars or less while trump has demanded five point seven billion dollars
