I hereby declare on %HESITATION the Supreme Court is set to determine whether the trump administration's fiercely contested citizenship question can be added to the twenty twenty census the question at stake is this person a citizen of the United States the nation's highest court agreed Friday to an expedited review of the judge's ruling blocking the question which has not been included on the census form since nineteen fifty the Manhattan based judge in January said the true motives of the citizenship query workin sealed and that the question was in violation of federal law the trump administration is out to destroy this bipartisan tradition the trump administration is battling dozens of states cities and various civil rights groups that are against the question appearing on the census forms the claim the question would scare immigrants from filling out the form and that would disproportionately affect democratic leaning states as the official population count is used in the allocation of house seats and the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funds the administration says the data will help enforce the voting rights act that protects eligible voters from discrimination that's provided data that's necessary oral arguments in the Supreme Court case will take place in late April and time is of the essence the official census forms are said to be printed in the coming months
