>> One of the potentially more damning moments of Trump's presidency was his interview with Lester Holt last year. When he appeared to confirm that he fired James Comey as head of the FBI because of the Russia investigation. But on Thursday, Trump claimed without proof, that the tape was manipulated.
00:00:19
Tweeting that Holt was caught, quote, fudging my tape on Russia. Trump had said he fired Comey, who then was overseeing the Russia probe, because he wasn't doing a good job. But in the NBC interview, he admitted he was thinking of, quote, this Russia thing when he fired him in May of last year.

Telling Lester Holt on camera quote, regardless of recommendation I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it. And in fact when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story.

In addition, to investigating whether Trump's campaign conspired with Russia to interfere in the election special Council Robert Muller who was appointed as a direct result of Comey's firing is investigating whether Trump has legally impended the investigation itself. Legal experts have said Muller's team must weight whether the president acted with an improper or corrupt intent when he took actions such as firing Comey, a key part to an obstruction of justice case.

Trump has denied any collusion with Russia and has said that he did not fire Comey over the federal probe. The NBC tweet was part of the president's early morning Twitter rant Thursday against the media, where he again called them quote, the enemy of the people. Representatives for NBC News had no immediate comment, but NBC News shared the full interview on their Twitter page.
