Lock him up. Lock him up.>> The US President's former National Security adviser is offering, quote, substantial cooperation with the investigators probing Donald Trump's ties to Russia. The office of special counselor, Robert Mueller on Tuesday asked the judge to spare the former general jail time. Due to his assistance concerning links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump campaign.
But further details of his cooperation are redacted from the filing. Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to charges as he lied to FBI agents over his conversations with a Russian ambassador. In exchange for leniency, Mueller's office said Flynn provided, quote, first hand information about the content and context of interactions between the transition team and Russian government officials.
Michael Flynn campaigned hard for the Republican candidate in the 2016 presidential race. Frequently salvaging his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.>> We do not need a reckless president who believes she is above the law.>> Lock her her up.>> Yes, that's right, lock her up.>> But he served in the Trump administration just 24 days before reports emerged he lied to the press and others in the White House about communications with Russian officials.
>> Lock him up, lock him up.>> He pleaded guilty in exchange for cooperation last year. But the President still seemed found of Flynn.>> Flynn lied and it's like, they ruined his life. It's very unfair. Thank you very much.>> Flynn's firing may have inadvertently laid the ground work for the appointment of the special counsel currently investigating Trump.
Former FBI director, James Comey says Trump appealed to him to go easy on Flynn.>> Did you at any time urge former FBI director James Comey in any way, shape or form to close or to back down the investigation into Michael Flynn? And also as you look back-
>> No, no. Next question.>> That purported request and Comey's subsequent firing prompted the Justice Department to tap Robert Mueller to probe Trump's ties to Russia, and whether the President tried to impede the investigation. Flynn, the President's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, and former campaign official Rick Gates have all cooperated with Mueller.
But apparently not former Trump campaign chairman, Paul Manafort. Mueller told the judge, Manafort violated his plea agreement by lying to investigators. Trump denies seeking help from Russia to win the White House and has called the special counsel investigation, quote, a witch hunt. Michael Flynn will be sentenced in the US District Court for the District of Columbia on December 18th.
