That only hours after President Ashraf Ghani outlined plans for peace in Afghanistan at a UN conference in Geneva. A car bomb exploded outside the G4S facility on Wednesday shortly after gunmen stormed in.

But the complex attack was such a well protected site underlines ongoing instability in the country, and shows just how insecure Kabul remains. Despite efforts by the US and the Afghan government to open peace talks with the Taliban, to end more than 17 years of war. The group says it was retaliating for casualties caused by security forces in the southern provinces of Helmand in Kandahar.
