>> An international dispute erupted over the skies of Syria on Tuesday. A Russian plane was shot down by the anti-aircraft guns of Russia's ally Syria in a friendly fire incident. But Moscow initially blamed Israel for indirectly causing the crash. Saying the country's fighter jets nearby were attacking Syrian targets at the time and had only given Moscow one minute's warning, putting the Russian plane in danger of being caught in crossfire.
Later, President Putin then seemed to soften his accusatory stance.>>
> It looks more like a chain of accidental circumstances. Because it wasn't an Israeli plane that took down our plane, but certainly we have to seriously look into it.>> Putin said Moscow would aim to secure the safety of Russian service people in Syria's complex conflict.
Israel though, has blamed Syria, along with its allies, Iran and Hezbollah, while expressing regrets at the loss of Russian lives. 15 people died as the reconnaissance plane came down.
