>> At least 25 people were killed when unknown gunmen fired at a military parade in Iran South. State Television said they aimed to stand where Iranian officials were watching an annual event to mark the start of Iran's 1980 to 88 war with Iraq. Parades were taking place across the country.

Iran's president Hassan Rouhani addressed this one in the capital Tehran.>>

> Many of those killed were Revolutionary Guards, the sword and shield of clerical rule since Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution. But women and children also died, the State news agency said, all four attackers were killed. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed Washington's allies in the region, a likely reference to Iran's arch foe Israel or Saudi Arabia.

He ordered the security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice. Islamic state militants claimed responsibility, but so did a group called the Ahvas National Resistance. Which is made up of Iranian minority Arabs and seeks a separate state. Ahvaz is a capital of Khuzestan province where there have been sporadic protests by an Arab minority over living standards and perceived discrimination.

Tensions have soared too between mainly Shiite and Sunni Saudi Arabia in recent years. And Islamic State struck last year, killing 18 people in Tehran at the Parliament and the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
