But now, after a historic summit earlier this year, in which the two discussed de-nuclearization of the Korean peninsula, Trump has taken his affection for Kim to new heights, even using the L-word.

But US officials say the sanctions are staying put, until North Korea meets US demands to take irreversible steps to give up its arsenal. Meanwhile, the Trump administration says it's preparing for a second summit with Kim, the time and place to be determined.

Trump is expected to travel to at least four more states this week, including Tennessee and Kansas, in support of Republican candidates ahead of November 6th mid-term elections.
