cooks drivers and lawyers may be heading to the US border with Mexico the latest sign of growing military support for president Donald trump's politically charged immigration policies the Pentagon said on Friday that it expected to send about three hundred additional troops including a hundred cooks who would hand out meals to the migrants breaking with past policy to avoid troops coming in contact with them the additional troops also include a hundred sixty drivers and twenty lawyers there are currently about five thousand active duty and National Guard troops near the border as the number of troops has risen so his concern about the military's role on the border with Mexico earlier in the week trump reiterated threats to close part of the U. S. Mexico border if Mexico doesn't block what he described as a new caravan of migrants headed north trump has made immigration a signature issue of his presidency and of his reelection campaign he declared a national emergency over the issue earlier this year in an effort to re direct funding from Congress to build a wall along the US's southern border
