a group of community and labor organizations banding against walmart filing a complaint with the i. r. s. on monday the accusation the giant retailer has been using its foundation money to drum up support for expansion in urban areas reuters correspondent nathan lane is following the story their argument that there's been a pattern around arm , certain store openings or attempts to open stores in big cities like new york boston los angeles and washington d. c. , where you're seeing a spike are in donations by the walmart foundation the complaint said that the walmart foundation doled out two hundred thousand dollars in donations in two thousand eight in los angeles but not figure jumped to one point three million in twenty eleven as plans for a new walmart store in the alley chinatown area gathered steam in twenty thirteen will not store opened donations dropped off again , two hundred and thirty thousand dollars but lean said it might be difficult to go up against walmart mean walmart and the walmart foundation gave one point four billion dollars globally last year in in casts and contributions to a lot of that is to you know local communities for disaster relief , our manufacturing women's issues there's all sorts of issues , so it's not as if there's a contribution that you could , easily tied directly to to a store opening the complaint was signed by thirteen community groups including a union backed organization that has been active in lobbying for higher wages and campaigned against the opening of more walmart stores
