you've got to sell stuff yet your interest is russia gets more nukes in the fight against islamic state wears on a bitter battle emerging in the u. s. senate over the twenty sixteen defense budget the latest flashpoint in an ongoing war between the two parties over how to fund the government , republicans want to give the pentagon a loophole to escape the punishing sequester budget cuts put in place in twenty eleven but the white house and senate democrats aren't happy news with president obama threatening to veto two pills crucial to the pentagon's budget john whiteside is following the story for reuters once a spending bill that actually appropriates the money the others an authorization bill that authorizes them to stay , behind the various spending provisions , republicans are trying to use thirty eight billion dollars in war contingency funds as a way to help the pentagon get around the cuts they managed to pass the policy bill but democrats are blocking the spending bill as part of a larger strategy to get rid of the sequester all together this is , sir gotten caught up in a much larger fight that the republicans and democrats are having over spending this year democratic leader harry reid just decided that the democrats will not pass any spending bills this year until they can come to a broader , agreement on priorities and spending %HESITATION republicans want to start moving these bills through , and , so far democrats have the votes to block that this battle is the first real test of this strategy and could be just the first of many many more to come
