six people fell to their deaths tuesday five of them irish exchange students after an apartment balcony collapse near the university of california at berkeley it's been a very traumatic time for us , and for the people back in ireland for all those families and it's something that has left a soul frozen in shock and disbelief , seven other students were severely injured in the fall pictures from the scene showed that the fourth floor balcony gave way and smashed into the third story balcony just beneath it , dropping all thirteen people forty feet below are just a loud crash and in silence for a couple of minutes and a scream police said the students were celebrating a friend's twenty first birthday that stretched into the early morning hours on tuesday at approximately two minutes after midnight we received a call from the building the loud party we did not respond to that call because four minutes after that call came in he received multiple , fired , were dispatched to authorities are now investigating what happened to the balcony which is part of the building owned by black rock the largest asset management fund in the u. s. , police said that there was no indication of criminal activity or criminal intent and it was most likely an accident
