>> Rescuers scrambled to retrieve the wounded and the dead. An explosion in a coal mine in Northern Iran Wednesday, killing at least 21 workers and wounding scores more, according to state media. It happened when workers tried to jump start a locomotive. The mine has 500 workers, and the blast went off just as the shift changed.
Fars News Agency reported earlier that more than 50 workers were trapped in a two-kilometer long tunnel filled with gas. That at first hampered the rescue effort, now underway.
