Harry Potter and the Cursed Child scooping nine wins at Sunday's Olivier Awards.>> And the winner for the Olivier 2017 best actor is of course Jamie Parker, my mate, for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.>> The stage adaption of J.K. Rowling's fantastical world of witches and wizards had received 11 nominations.
Award organizers says its victorious haul made it the most decorated production in the ceremony's history. The eighth story in the Harry Potters series, the play follows Rowling's young boy wizard and friends Ron and Hermione into adulthood. It took best new play, best actor, best actor and actress in a supporting role, as well as best director.
>> We have to celebrate all those people coming and they're seeing imagination, and they're believing in the shows, and just thinking that creativity is such a fundamental thing to existence.>> Other winners at the glitzy ceremony included Billie Piper walking away with best actress for her role in Yerma.
And Glee actress Amber Riley scooping best actress in a musical for Dreamgirls. Actor and director Kenneth Branagh was honored with the special award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to British theater.>> If you've told me back then what life might have brought professionally, it would have been hard to imagine what amazing, amazing opportunity that's come along.
So there's something very beautiful and touching for me, and of course it's a fantastic honor to come back and be delighted they feel some of that promise has delivered.>> The instrument-playing children in composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock also winners, awarded the outstanding achievement in music.
