Why? Because when he got there, he pulled out his smartphone and played Pokemon Go For a video that he later uploaded onto YouTube. In it he used strong language mocking Christianity and Russian Orthodox, and linking Jesus to a Pokemon creature pretending to catch him in a Pokemon ball.

The video got 1.9 million views and landed him in a pre-trial detention center. Ruslan says he did it after he found out it was a jailable offense. Inciting religious hatred was the same charge used to prosecute the punk band Pussy Riot in 2012 when they staged a cathedral protest against President Vladimir Putin.

Then members of the band got two year jail sentences. Ruslan avoided going directly to prison. But he was sentenced to 160 hours of community service and told not to show up in public places. Then there's the question of whether he can still play Pokemon Go. He said he wouldn't and it's out of fashion anyway.
