>> Los Angeles is rolling out the red carpet for a delegation from the International Olympic Committee this week as the city vies to host the 2024 Summer Games. I'm Reuters correspondent Rory Carroll in Los Angeles. The city is playing host to a delegation from the International Olympic Committee who's in town this week to check out the sites and see the various stadiums that Los Angeles would utilize in hosting the games.
Critical to Los Angeles pitch is that no new infrastructure would be required to host the games. Other cities pulled out this time around, because they were concerned about cost overruns, building stadiums that would crumble after the games left. The latest poll of people in Los Angeles shows that around 88% support, hosting the games here in 2024.
The only other city in the running at this point, is Paris. And Paris, is set to make its pitch to the IOC, when the members leave LA on Friday, and head to Paris. Paris similarly says very little new infrastructure would need to be built. And many think that it has an emotional story to tell.
It wanted to hosted the games when London received them previously. It was a surprise they didn't get them then. So some think Paris is due for the games. And possibly LA will have to wait until 2028 to host the games. A final decision will be made in September in Lima, Peru.
