>> Planned Parenthood is set to close four Iowa clinics next month, after Republican Governor Terry Branstad blocked $2 million in public money for family planning services to abortion providers. The four clinics across the state are set to close on June 30th, after serving nearly 15,000 patients over the last three years, including rural and poor Iowa women.
This comes as Iowa's Republican lawmakers recently voted to stop funding a federal Medicaid family planning program and replace it with a state program that bars money to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. The closures mark the latest push by Republicans led by President Donald Trump to pull funding from the women's health care organization due to its abortion services.
>> Shame, shame, shame, shame!>> But women nationwide argue Planned Parenthood is vital to their wider healthcare needs, since it also provides cancer screenings, birth control, STD testing, and annual checkups. Planned Parenthood says their eight remaining clinics in Iowa will remain open for now.
