>> Southern rock legend Greg Allman is dead at the age of 69. According to his official website, Allman died peacefully at his home in Savannah Georgia on Saturday.>> I'm glad we are to be back here.>> His soulful vocals made the Allman Brothers Band one of Rock's top acts in the 1970s but his career was also marred by tragedy and drug abuse.
The Allman Brothers Band was started in Macon, Georgia in the late 1960s by Gregg and his older brother Dwayne before he was killed in a motorcycle accident at age 24. Greg was the band's lead singer, keyboardist, and the key songwriter as the band put out a string of hits including Ramblin Man and Midnight Rider.
But by the mid 70s, the cloud over the band grew darker as Greg became a heroine addict. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 but Allman said in his book, he was too drunk to enjoy it
