Appropriately named the extremely large telescope, or ELT, it's funded by the European southern observatory. And it's going to have a resolution something like 16 times clearer then that of the famous Hubble space telescope. So it's really got the potential to transform our understanding of the universe.>> The telescope is due to begin operations in 2024. The ESO estimates the project will cost just over $1 billion.
