>> The fire may be out but for the foreseeable future, Interstate 85 in Atlanta will be out of action for commuters. Authorities on the scene are still assessing the damage after a highway bridge collapsed Thursday evening, as a fire raged beneath it. There was so much smoke, some area residents said they thought a storm was coming or that the sun had set early.
The fire brought traffic to a halt, drivers stuck for hours trying to get off the highway and away from danger.>> We've been in Uber for over two hours and we had like, 1.4 miles to go.>> They walked, but Devon Pyatt said it's nothing compared to what firefighters had to face.
Authorities say the fire appeared to have been fueled by a large pile of PVC piping beneath the structure. But the investigation is ongoing as Atlanta residents deal with the loss of a major artery through their city.
