>> In an attempt to rise above discrimination, HSBC has widened the range of titles offered to customers. Now people can pick an extra ten gender neutral ones to cater for all identities. As well as Mx where x replaces the end of say mister or missus, there's now nine others, including m where the x is dropped all together and Mre, the abbreviation of mystery.
Plus there's also Pr, short for person. The titles will be applied across a customer's account, including their bank cards and correspondence. The release coincides with International Transgender Day of Visibility, which aims to raise awareness of discrimination faced by the transgender community. Other banks are making their attempt too.
Metro Bank offers Mx already, while the Royal Bank of Scotland has stopped asking customers what their mother's maiden name is to reflect more modern family structures
