>> Described as being like an earthquake. A huge gas explosion in Liverpool has serious injured two and hurt more than 30 others according to an ambulance spokesman. Several buildings have been destroyed in Northwest England, debris littering the streets in New Ferry.>> It's what we would describe as a total collapse, or the explosion has blown the walls out, which has caused the roof to collapse onto the ground.
So its a very significant debris field and lots of structural damage to the surrounding buildings as well.>> Houses shook and windows shattered in Saturday night's blast. A children's dance studio, which was unoccupied at the time, was destroyed according to a post on its Facebook page. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said the scale of the damage was considerable and say the cause of the blast was a suspected gas leak.
It warns that the after effects of the explosion could last for some time. An investigation into what happened is underway.
