voters in Iowa officially kicking off the twenty sixteen race for the White House Monday while all the contenders would love a victory history shows a win in Iowa is hardly a golden ticket to a party's nomination , the Iowa caucuses sometimes put people on the map like Jimmy Carter in nineteen seventy six or Barack Obama in two thousand and eight look at Mike Huckabee the Republican winner in two thousand eight and ricksantorum who won in twenty twelve neither candidate went on to become the party's nominee not because voters in Iowa especially Republicans are different than the rest of the country Jim Elefante is in Iowa I was electric look much like the Republican electorate and other state with its large proportion of evangelical couple conservative an older voters I cringe can't , so what we've seen in the past that you really can't get their victory in Iowa as a Republican really propel you , down the road and build momentum for a campaign good good predictor or not I like is enough of a prize that candidates still tried to place at least in the top three most important thing about Iowa is that it really helps build momentum and we saw that with Barack Obama in two thousand eight when he beat Hillary Clinton or upset when it showed people that he was a viable candidate that he was somebody who could actually slug it out with her and where dnmt real high expectations about the don't they don't come in one two or three in Iowa can take comfort from the case of Bill Clinton who placed a dismal fourth in Iowa in nineteen ninety two but a year later was sworn in as the forty second president
