Brides and grooms waved Palestinian flags as family members and politicians celebrated the spectacle. Hamas has governed the Palestinian territory since 2007 and is on the European Union terrorism blacklist. The Islamist group holds mass weddings on a regular basis in the Gaza Strip. It pays for the entertainment and gives gifts to those getting married.
One of its senior officials addressed the crowds, calling on them to renew their efforts to end what he described as, a Zionist occupation.
