Ninth seeded Williams is looking to win her third US Open crown in 16 years. After reaching the finals at both the Australian open and Wimbledon. Thursday's matches marking the first appearance for the other players at Flushing Meadows as Serena Williams sits out the season to have her first child.
Stephens and Keys both recovering from recent surgeries to bounce back in time to be contenders. While Vandeweghe upset top seeded Karolina Pliskova in straight sets to make it to the semis.
