>> The allegations against me are not true.>> Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announcing Tuesday that he will resign effective 5 pm on Wednesday, following new allegations of sexual abuse. Murray Democrat and the city's first openly gay Mayor, has been dogged for months by multiple accusations. Just hours before he resigned, the Seattle Times reporting that the Mayor's younger cousin, now a 54 year old man, made public allegations Murray molested him when he was a child.
He is the fifth man to publicly accuse Murray of sexual abuse.>> The allegations against me, paint me in the worst possible historic portraits of a gay man.>> Murray saying in a statement quote, while the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public's business.
The earlier allegations caused Murray whose mayoral term would have expired at the end of 2017 to abandon his campaign for reelection. City Council Member Bruce Harrell will now take over as Mayor, and will decide within the next five days whether to fill out the remainder of the term.
