>> Harvard University on Friday withdrawing a fellowship invitation to Chelsea Manning after the school faced pressure from the Central Intelligence Agency. The move comes after CIA Director Mike Pompeo on Thursday abruptly cancelled a planned appearance at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.>> I'm very sorry to have to announce that the CIA Director will not be speaking here tonight.
>> In a letter to Harvard, Pompeo called Manning an American traitor. Chelsea Manning, a transgender former US army soldier, was convicted of passing classified information to WikiLeaks. She was released from prison in May after President Barrack Obama commuted her sentence. Harvard's Kennedy School of Government on Wednesday announced that it had offered Manning a visiting fellowship and invited her to speak.
The School of Government's President saying on Friday, Manning's invitation to speak still stands, but the decision to invite her as a visiting fellow was a mistake. Manning wrote on Twitter she was quote honored to be first disinvited trans woman visiting Harvard fellow. They chill marginalized voices over CIA pressure.
