>> Donald Trump Jr on Thursday testifying behind closed doors for the first time to one of several Congressional panels looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race. The Senate Judiciary Committee eager to speak with the younger Trump ever since the bombshell revelation that he met with a Russian lawyer in the summer of 2016, who offered him damaging details on Cemocratic rival, Hillary Clinton.
The meeting at Trump Tower was of special interest to lawmakers as they probe whether Trump's campaign might have colluded with Moscow. At first Don Jr insisted the meeting was only about Russia's adoption policy. But under pressure he soon released damaging emails exchanged with the meeting's organizers, indicating the chance to get dirt on Clinton was the main draw.
Don Jr at one point emailing, if it's what you say I love it. Later reports revealed President Trump himself had a hand in drafting his son's misleading first statement on the matter. The meeting at Trump Tower also attended by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and his then campaign manager Paul Manafort whose Russia ties have also come under scrutiny.
The Judiciary Committee's probe only one of several looking into Trump's ties to Russia, including the investigation of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller. A source last month telling Reuters a federal grand jury in the Mueller probe had issued subpoenas in connection with the June 2016 meeting. Moscow denies any meddling in last year's race and Trump denying any collusion while denouncing the investigations as political witch hunts.
