The University of Louisville putting Pitino on unpaid administrative leave Wednesday, in the wake of a federal investigation into fraudulent recruiting practices.
>> Doing nothing would be a tacit endorsement of unethical and criminal behavior.>> Pitino's lawyer telling local media Pitino has been, "effectively fired". On Tuesday, federal prosecutors in New York announced fraud and corruption charges against ten people involved in college basketball alleging some coaches were paid tens of thousands of dollars from apparel companies, sports agents, and financial advisors to steer star NBA bound players toward their services.
>> The picture painted by the charges brought today is not a pretty one.>> Federal documents reportedly citing a high ranking Louisville staffer as helping funnel $100,000 from Adidas to the family of a Louisville basketball recruit. Pitino saying Tuesday night the allegations came as a complete shock to him, adding quote, "I am committed to taking whatever steps are needed to ensure those responsible are held accountable".
Pitino has endured his share of scandals. Louisville is currently on probation by the NCAA with Pitino already facing suspension due to a sex scandal involving the Cardinals dating back to 2015.
