>> The time for half measures in the Security Council is over. The time has come to exhaust all of our diplomatic means before it's too late.>> American Envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley, has emerged as the public face of US foreign policy on issues from North Korea, to Iran, to Syria.
But this week, she'll share the spotlight with a boss who doesn't like to be upstaged. Hailey, a former governor of South Carolina, arrived at the UN, pledging to take names of members who did not have Washington's back. Trump Administration officials say the President is happy with her performance, lavishing her with two of his favorite adjectives, smart and tough.
>> When a rogue regime has a nuclear weapon and an ICBM pointed at you, you do not take steps to lower your guard.>> And Nikki Haley did a great job, we all did a great job.>> Haley criticized Trump during the Republican presidential primary and backed one of his rivals during the race.
But she's proved herself to be among the most loyal and hard-working members of his administration. Twice in 15 days, Haley pushed the 15 members of the UN Security Council to ramp up sanctions on North Korea. She's also proven adept at keeping step with Trump when he seems to change his mind.
Trump has sometimes downplayed expectations for new sanctions.>> But probably it will not be as effective as a lot of people think it can be, unfortunately. And Haley quickly concurs.>> Do we think more sanctions are gonna work on North Korea? Not necessarily. But what does it do?
It cuts off the revenue->> And she's been even quicker to make sure Trump gets credit.>> Today's resolution would not have happened without the strong relationship that has developed between President Trump and Chinese President Xi. And we greatly appreciate both teams working with us.>> There's even talk of Haley replacing the US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who's at times drawn positions appearing to contradict Trump.
One European diplomat telling Reuters, I see her potential taking over from Tillerson at some point. It's clear her long term objective is the Presidency.>> On Sunday Haley told CNN, Tillerson is not going anywhere, and I continue to work well with him.
