>> Amazon received 238 proposals for its second headquarters. I'm Reuters Jeffrey Dastin. Across North America, cities, states far and wide submitted proposals to host Amazon's second campus. They're interested because Amazon has said it will invest $5 billion in that location and create up to 50,000 jobs. Three states in Mexico submitted proposals, six provinces in Canada, even Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and 43 states in the US all expressed interest.
And in a more curious proposal, the Mayor of Stonecrest, Georgia, a suburb just outside Atlanta, offered to carve out a portion of that city and rename it Amazon, if Amazon locates there. And make Jeff Bezos, the Chief Executive of Amazon, mayor for life. Even though many had expected the would draw a lot of bids, no one had quite expected 238 proposals.
These proposals are coming in despite the fact that many of those submitting might not actually have that great a shot. They might meet some criteria that Amazon has for its second campus, but at the end of the day, the company needs to locate in a place where it thinks it can recruit top tech talent away from competitors like Google or Facebook.
