>> Come on and join the fight!>> Abortion is a human right!>> The American Civil Liberties Union wants a federal court to reconsider a ruling blocking an illegal immigrant teenager's request for an abortion. In a suit that's gained national attention, the filing came after the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit denied the 17-year-old's request to immediately obtain the abortion while she's in federal custody.
The court's decision Friday gave the Department of Health and Human Services until October 31st to approve a sponsor who would help her obtain procedure without the federal government's help. The teen referred to as Jane Doe entered the US without any family in September and is currently detained in Texas and 15 weeks pregnant.
The clock is ticking as Texas law does not allow a woman to terminate her pregnancy after 20 weeks.>> Life is winning again in America.>>
>> According to the ACLU, new rules introduced under the Trump administration in March require underage detainees who need abortions to first seek approval from the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
If Doe is unable to find a sponsor, the appeals court says the pregnant teenager could renew her claim.
