>> There's never been a consideration in my mind to leave.>> Secretary of State Rex Tillerson pushing back hard on a report that he almost handed President Trump his resignation last summer, or that there's any tension between him and the White House.>> First my commitment to the success of our president and our country is as strong as it was the day I accepted his offer to serve as Secretary of State.
>> Tillerson's comments coming after a bombshell NBC report Wednesday, suggesting Tillerson not only threatened to quit, but called Trump a moron following a Pentagon meeting in July. Tillerson's side stepping whether he made that comment.>> I'm not gonna deal with petty stuff like that.>> But the State Department emphatically denying it.
>> The Secretary did not use that type of language to speak about the President of the United States, he does not that language to speak about anyone.>> NBC also reporting Vice President Mike Pence, had convinced Tillerson to stay on, and the tensions between him and Trump still ran deep.
>> The Vice President has never had to persuade me to remain as Secretary of State because I have never considered leaving this post.>> President Trump weighing in on the report during a visit to Las Vegas.>> Yeah, I'm very honored by his comments. It was fake news, it was a totally bogus story.
Thank you very much, it was made up, it was made up by NBC. They just made it up.>> Do you have confidence in him?>> Thank you. Total confidence in him.>> Matt Spetalnick is on the story.>> This doesn't change the fact that, even though Tillerson is staying on as Secretary of State, he is far from being empowered in the making of foreign policy.
His own boss will continue to undermine, make his own comments, and do what he likes when it comes to that issue.>> Trump and Tillerson have appeared to clash publicly in recent weeks, on the violence at a white supremacist demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia. Tillerson said Trump spoke for himself when saying counter protestors shared blame.
On Tillerson's diplomatic overtures to North Korea Trump tweeted that the secretary was wasting his time, but Tillerson adamant that he and Trump are working together.
