> North Korean leader Kim Jong-un saying his nuclear weapons are quote a powerful deterrent that guaranteed his country's sovereignty, North Korean state media reported Sunday. Kim's comments coming just hours after US President Donald Trump tweeted, quote, only one thing will work in dealing with the rogue nation.
The President's tweet widely seen as further suggestion Trump is poised for military action against Pyongyang despite his remaining vague on the message.>> What's the one thing that will work regarding Korea?>> Well, you'll figure that out pretty soon.>> Kim's rejoinder coming in a meeting of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, where he also promoted his 28-year-old sister, Kim Yo Jong to alternate member of his opaque center of power.
Kim Yo Jong was among those blacklisted by the US Treasury in January for severe human rights abuses. Also promoted, North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho who named Trump President Evil in a bombastic speech to the U.N. general assembly last month. He will now be one of Kim's top policy makers.
Trump has said that the U.S. would totally destroy North Korea if necessary. To protect itself and its allies from Pyongyang's nuclear threats. Earlier last week Trump called the dinner with military leaders at the White House quote the calm before the storm.>> Maybe it's the calm before the storm.
>> But has refused to elaborate what storm he was referring to. North Korea has launched two missiles over Japan in recent weeks and conducted its sixth nuclear test. A Russian law maker recently back from Pyongyang saying North Korea is preparing to test launch a nuclear tipped missile it believes can reach the U.S. mainland.
